PREJUDICE AND YOUR CHILD

In two parts, the problem of racial prejudice - and the program through which it may be countered, this discussion of discrimination shows ""what negative racial attitudes are, now they affect our society, and the ways in which they are communicated to our children"". It is based on extensive reports by social scientists, and records the child's awareness of skin color; the transmission of community pressures; the effects on the Negro child where the high cost of racial frustration is often aggression; the effects on the white child in unconscious reactions of guilt and anxiety. What the schools can do, the social agencies, the churches, and the parent outline a constructive course of procedure and progress.... The recent Supreme Court decision, declaring segregation in public education unconstitutional, will help perhaps to bring this to a non-professional audience; but it is essentially a study for other social scientists, psychologists, teachers, etc.
