As a book this is flimsy whimsy but it could be a frolic as a movie starring say, Milton Berle and Margaret Leighton. The narrator and wife, Beth, forcibly ousted from their teaching positions for reasons too absurd to list here, find they have fortuitously inherited an ancient lodge. Beth adds to its charm by decorating the bridal chamber with a four-poster she finds at an auction. Months later they slowly discover that the four-poster has a fatal fecundity. . . every blushing and not-so-blushing bride who sleeps in it gets pregnant up to and through retirement years. As the bed's reputation spreads, the reservations pile up--from sex goddess Gloria Gladdess to an Emir with a harassed harem. They eventually take their problem to the Department of Health, Education and Welfare which plans a noble experiment. . . . All it needs is a screen test.
