To Lost Haven comes Cherry, natural daughter of Alec, boat builder and husband of Jamaica, who is forever batting his predecessor Kelly; and Benison, daughter of O'Shon, eager for escape from her staid librarian's life. Benison is hired to care for Cherry's grandfather, and the two girls are forced into unwilling friendship, though both want the same boy, Lea, Cherry wine cut and Benison is forced to find compensation in literary research, which in turn betrays her into disclosing her father's still. Cherry learns that Alec is her natural father, in rebellion plans to elope tith Len, but Benison sets Alec on their trial. Alec is killed, and Cherry and Benison return to their old lives. Broad social comedy.
