Parsing the plot won't serve any utilitarian purpose here -- this is one of those outrageously active capers dealing roughly, and smoothly, with the disappearance of a Goya and dependent altogether on the presence of the Honorable Charlie Mortdecai, an art dealer, hedonist, boozer, litterateur (he has all of civilization at his command including lots of incidental information -- brandy keeps you awake, Scotch puts you to sleep). The dirty business at hand begins in London, proceeds to the American southwest and returns to rural England for the terminal endgame. All with aplomb.
