THE SECRET LIONS

Because his breed is practically extinct on this particular mountain, a young lion club learns to live quietly and at peace. Throughout the year, he forages for food and escapes the hunter's gun, but he suffers from loneliness. When a young lioness comes on the scene he is assured of companionship and of populating the countryside with a new litter of lions. The vocabulary is geared for older children but the text is written in a manner familiar to their younger siblings. It lacks excitement to the same extent as the illustrations which lack the spirit of a mountain Lion's lot.
