Joadie, the young son of a Nova Scotia pilot, yearns for a little motor boat which is for sale in the Digby boatyard. His father, skeptical about his ability to take the responsibility for such a craft, hesitates to grant him his wish. Determined to earn his father's confidence, Joadie embarks on a wage-earning campaign, but it is his facility in handling an emergency which finally wins him his boat and reassures his father. An unusual background of Nova Scotia life and illustrations by the author which are both whimsical and decorative give flavor to this entertaining narrative. A very attractive format.
