Detective Sergeant Arthur Milton -- cf. Sitting Pretty (p. 697) -- just sits and waits until the end here for another prisoner, Tolly, a strong-room artist whom he is sure will try to get back at the wife who left him for another man. Before he does, Tolly has effected some pretty classy jobs -- in particular a bank where he burns his way through a 2(apple) foot steel door. The actions; vicious and brutalizing, speak louder than the words some of which you won't understand (pronk; berk; etc.) but they sound as stentorian as this is.
