Aquino's transformation from a pretty housewife and mother to President of the Philippines is reported by a television newswriter. Born to a rich and politically influential family, Cory attended parochial schools and college in the US. Classmates, interviewed for this biography, remember her as a shy, religious, and conscientious student who was something of a math whiz. Her marriage to Benigno Aquino ended her law-school career and cast her in the role of a silent, supportive wife who cooked for political meetings. Events of the last three years (up to November 1986) receive in-depth coverage; some readers may need a score card to keep track of the players and events. But there is one glaring error in the text. Richard Nixon is described as ""the only US President ever to be impeached."" Nixon resigned before the articles of impeachment were brought to a vote; plus, President Andrew Johnson was impeached in 1868 but never convicted. This error certainly casts doubt on the accuracy of the rest of the book, especially the complicated political coverage.
