This book is as confused as its hero, Elwood Baskin, a 6'9"" basketball player whose mind leaps faster than his jump shot from one disturbing hallucination to another. They all revolve around his family--millionaire Jewish parents who bicker throughout; his psychiatrist who mealy-mouths Freud; his girlfriends (he is much given to masturbatory fantasy--at one point jerking off on his own picture on the cover of Newsweek); and his art instructor, one Chud who plans to sculpt a full, court-sized basketball game using the figure of Elwood as the pivot point. Most of what goes on in Elwood's head is talk, talk, talk, all disjointed and easily disqualified on any terms.
