MY BIG BROTHER

When mother leaves for the day, George and his kid sister Marie spend charmed hours together- buying the newspaper, playing ball, flying George's kite. The unspoken moral is of course, that they haven't had a fight, and, not that we like fights, it is an occasion that forces us to conclude that we don't like these Ding Dong School Books either. The test of time has pricked our first enthisiasm, and shown them up as insipid finger pointers to goody-goodyism and devoid of life's realities that the young do like, along with their ideals. Flat.
