PIRATE PREY

Portobello on the Caribbean coast, in 1668, was a scene of pirate plunder. To twelve-year-old Juan it meant the end of his privileged life as the son of a Spanish administrator, the beginning of a precarious existence as an orphan, whose main concern was to stay alive and find some humble means of securing a livelihood. His adventures as he flees from the pirate, Morgan, provide a vehicle for a well paced account of the history and geography of the Caribbean at a period when daily events were fought with adventure and high romance.
