The Executive Secretary of the Research Institute of America, author of M-Day and Your Business Goes To War gives an overall preview of economic and industrial problems to be faced after the war. Representing a realistic, practical point of view, he deals with tangibles rather than theories, puts a damper on the unlimited-abundance-for-all (Stuart Chase etc.) prophets in outlining the probabilities, rather than the possibilities. He discusses G.I. Joe and his attitudes in peace time; the dangers of rushing demobilization; employment and re-employment; re-conversion, which is not a question of guns to butter, since we have had both, but of butter only, which leaves a problem of contraction; government owned property and industry and who will take over; full employment, which depends on full spending (but will the people spend?); big business, now bigger than ever; the national debt and taxation; the miracles ahead, from pre-fab housing to modern medicine. In conclusion, he claims it can be done -- but does not say how -- under a system of free enterprise. Sensible, cautionary preview of the world ahead, for a male audience, chiefly.
