by Les--Ed. Daniels ‧ RELEASE DATE: Aug. 1, 1976
This is twice as much for the money as Otto Penzler's Whodunit? Houdini? (below)--25 inclusions, illustrations by Lee Brown Coye, the same large format (8fl x 10 3/1) as Daniels' horror story and film collection, Living in Fear. Among the classic exemplars who have succeeded in frightening people to death through the years are Poe, Washington Irving, Marion Crawford, Arthur Machen, M. R. James, Lovecraft, Bierce, and Wells; for more modern inclinations Henry Kuttner, John Collier, Robert Bloch, and of course Ray Bradbury. Summum malum for everyone's taste and the editor's is unquestionable.
