BY NAME IS DEATH

Tamar Austin was a would-be folk singer who had acquired a pair of shoes since leaving Tennessee, but little else to recommend her as a young banker's wife. Raymond Austin, who fell in love with her under the spell of folk music, was trying to divorce her when she was murdered. His lawyer had foresight to do what the Los Angeles Police Department were too busy for --he went into the folk singers' world to find the pattern in Tamar's life and death. The lawyer is Jesse Falkenstein who last appeared in the excellent Against the Evidence (1962, p. 933).
