OUTSIDE MY WINDOW

A little boy who claims ""there's a bear outside my window"" is told ""it's time for bed,"" but he can't sleep, and lets the bear in. Attempts to disguise the unwelcome guest (""you know how mothers are"") are unsuccessful, (although they successfully beguile the reader); disappointed, boy decks bear in cap and muffler, dishes out oatmeal cookies and bread and jam before they depart hand in paw through the garden. Bear goes to mamma bear, boy goes to bed; both go beyond the normal bedtime routine. Muted coloring adds to the soothing effect of the penpoint illustrations, assuring nods of assent from parents, other nods from youngsters (and recollections, of another Little Bear).
