I'LL MEET YOU AT THE CUCUMBERS

An engaging city-country mouse tale starring Adam, a timid mouse who discovers new friends on his first city adventure. Adam has always envied his plucky friend Junius, who regularly travels to the city aboard a farmer's truck. Since corresponding with Amanda, one of Junius' city acquaintances, Adam has been considering making the big trip, too. One morning, after testing his courage by scaling a scarecrow, he accompanies Junius and meets Amanda at the cucumber stand at the farmers' market. She takes him on a city tour, including a visit to the library--where Adam discovers that the ""thoughts"" he enjoys composing are really poems. Kids should like the story's natural flow and the possibility of a sequel. Adam's poems are small gems; as Junius comments, they ""make a fellow look twice."" A fine read-aloud, and a perfect way to introduce poetry.
