The picturesque customs of a Swedish Easter are enacted through the experiences of 8 year old Tekla and her family. On Easter Eve, Tekla masquerades as a witch while the older people dance around the Easter fire. On Easter Sunday, the family departs from their little island off the coast of Sweden and heads for church on the mainland. Tekla is thrilled to sit in the prew of the ship for the first time. The traditional Easter feast climaxes a splendid day and Tekla's good spirits prevail as she presents baby sister Elsa with a favorite doll. Genia's superb woodcuts in deep reds, purples and golds lend a special air of excitement to a special holiday.
