by Lillian Budd ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 15, 1960
This is the story of the Oregon lumber country and its strange hold on the imagination of two generations. It is assumed by a later group of lumberjacks that madness is rampant in their community when two men report that they have heard a strange and beckoning voice. The mystery of the voice is revealed as the author recalls an earlier group of settlers, who, in a dramatic pilgrimage across the country, arrive in Oregon and claim her bounties. A poetic story which takes an unusual approach to history and embraces not only the facts but the emotional overtones of the circumstances with which it deals.
