Meet Jane Lyons, 1940 stand-in for Babs: Sub-Deb, an exuberant and engaging fifteen, and ""carnivorously"" cinema-crazy. She and her chum, Barb, are members of the youngest profession, the film fans. They live (but don't eat) Hollywood, send flowers, sonnets and advice gratis to their ""grand passions"", organize clubs and services, relentlessly stalk the stars for autographs, adulate without reservation, and swear by a ""stack of Photoplays"". Jane, for all her babble, is bright and manages to annoy and intrigue quite a number of celebrities -- and as a sideline carefully messes up her Aunt Helen's love life. This has some very, silly, gay moments and Jane with all her would-be-sophisticated malapropisms, her triumphs and humiliations, her single-minded pursuit of celluloid idols, is very nice.
