PUMPERNICK AND PIMPERNEL

Much color, no impact. Pumpernick and Pimpernel's forest garden (two long pages of description), where the two rustics and dog Pudding dwell blissfully (another page), is invaded by assorted ""rowdies""--a giant blue mouse, Pete the Drifter, the Noise Man (i.e. donkey) with his junk cart--who fight to a finish; P & P trundle them off, set them adrift on the river, and put up a sign--""Keep out! Biting dog"" to discourage future interlopers. From Pumpernick and Pimpernel you'd at least expect pumpernickel: what little there is to chew on here is rather disagreeable.
