PURPLE TIDE

Baseball, football and the High School teams, the rivalries, jealousies, and eventual victory of the boy hero over all odds- this adds up to a routine story for boys. One interesting thing emerges- the accurate portrayal of the indifference of High School boys and girls to team effort. In this particular High School lack of school interest in the team had resulted in medicare teams. But, in his Senior year, young Marvin, after battling more personal problems, brings about the change, unites the school, and injects a good shot of community spirit as well. The best part of the story deals with the coaching sequences and the games themselves. The rest seems largely a vehicle for sports scenes and sports talk.
