by Louis Untermeyer ‧ RELEASE DATE: N/A
An important two volume work:- (1) a definitive life of Heine; (2) poems. Untermeyer has long been a student and devotee of Heine. He made the translation of the poems some time ago (1917) and has spent years searching down every source for this definitive life. Interesting reading and Untermeyer makes convincing his picture of a man in whom temperamental forces and environmental forces were at war throughout a checkered and rather tragic life. Appraisal of his work is implicit in the study of the man.
