by Lyman Bryson ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 23, 1952
Lyman Bryson has written another book on contemporary problems which is characterized by the same facile, forward-looking optimism that has made him a favorite with many Americans as Director on the radio program, Invitation to Learning. In his preface he remarks that no one can justly claim to be a superior prophet ""except perhaps in faith"". And it is Mr. Bryson's faith abounding in the basic soundness of the American people and their institutions which guides his thinking in such chapters as ""What Has Happened to Democracy?"", ""The Destiny of Nations"", ""Individualism as Duty"", etc. In short, Mr. Bryson believes that America must become a sister nation in a World Civilization inspired by democratic ideals. He seems to feel that this end can be accomplished if the democracies will stick together and be willing to listen to both sides of the story. Perhaps a slightly oversimplified view, but it's what many people will want to read -- if they read this type of book.
