Neither a text book nor a guide book of instructions, this is a casual, light treatment of odds and ends of the game for those who are ""fans"" but not quite seasoned fans. You can start with where to sit, how to act, what to look for; you can learn bits of baseball history and personalities; you'll get a look at the official rules and classic plays -- and unusual ones; there are statistics and scores; there are analyses of temperaments and crowds; you can decide between baseball live and on TV -- and you can read a whole poem on baseball by Rolfe Humphries. Written with humor, but not necessarily humorous, this is easy entertainment and should be welcomed by any and all for whom the game is more than a name.
