Rich, handsome bachelor Conan Flagg (Seasons of Death), still living in Oregon as bookseller and part-time P.I., now gets involved in the death of young widow Corey Benbow--a neighbor who's found dead in her car at the bottom of a cliff. Flagg is certain it's murder, not accident (the official verdict). And he suspects that the motive connects to Corey's recent work with the Ecology Conservancy: a frantic struggle to keep Gabe Benbow, her sanctimonious, grasping grandfather-in-law, from selling hundreds of acres of coastal land to developers. Among the bad guys in this matter: Gabe's prodigal son Jonas; his dutiful son Moses (with patrician wife France); money man Leo Moskin; and realtor Nina Gillies. So Flagg is stymied at every turn by this nasty bunch--until a wildly improbable confrontation and Mother Nature bring a form of revenge for Corey's death. Boring in parts, overwrought in others: a thin, obvious addition to an undistinguished series.
