Good American-way-of-life-in-a-small-town flavor for a very charming, but rather sentimental story of a small family broken by the war, and of the way in which the saddened father is forced to review the events of his son's happy life, in the United States he died to preserve. Old Marsh was a druggist -- and life ended for him when his son died, and he couldn't see the answers. A simple pattern which conveys in wholesome, natural terms, the real significance of democracy.
