Power intrigue among the Indians and in the English settlement threaten war and menace Jamie personally, but a warning in time and Captain Smith's knowledge of Indian ways save all. Reluctant scholars will swallow their history whole with the fast-moving action; despite some overblown prose, it's an exciting reconstruction.
