HAPPY RETURNS

Those Brief Candles (1954) that flickered gaily and went out voluntarily are here rekindled when Sally and Jeremy Latimer invoke their impetuous ancestors, James and Charles, who had been so helpful a year earlier (and their monkey, Ulysses). With these three out of their graves, Uncle Quentin, who is in trouble in Italy, hasn't much of a chance as they make their way in a madly driven Citroen, through the mix-up of 32 passports, the releasing of the animals of a circus and unlatching Uncle Quentin from the adhesive Poppy Thompson. Good deeds prove infectious as the ghostly group effects the well-timed fade ins and fade outs and the revenants can return to their graves with a sense of accomplishment. Frivol in the Topper tradition, this ghoul-reaction should amuse a light minded audience.
