Stressing the relationship between emotional maturity and motor dexterity, the author stresses the desirability of encouraging the child to speak through play and reading, but discourages ""baby talk"" initiated by adults. Although there is no mention of later, more serious speech problems, this book does a rewarding job on the limited span it covers.
