Good craftsmanship but not a particularly good novel, this new book of Miss Kennedy's. The whole story is keyed to ""the Midas touch"" in two men, one a young Welshman, Evan Jones, who recognizes and fears the gift in himself, and lives by his wits and his fatal charm; the other Corris Morgan, ruthless giant of big business. It is their story, and the story of the women who came into their lives, -- Lydia who falls for Evan's charm, and pays the price; Mrs. Carter Blake, the clairvoyant, who helps sway the course of events; and the weakling wife of Corris Morgan. The story is told by the ""camera eye"" method, the pieces fit into place as the story progresses. The appeal is largely mental -- and not wholly successful.
