In this novel of three girls at a college houseparty, the author manages to punctuate practically every dilemma and anxiety that might confront the average teen-ager. There is Casey, wholesome and self-reliant, but somewhat restricted by her working class background; Beth, ""almost sixteen"", intellectually gifted, but thwarted by her over scrutinizing parents and socially immature; and there is the beautiful, insecure Monica, child of wealthy, but indifferent, parents. Basically antagonistic, the girls learn under stress, not only to understand each other, but more important, to understand themselves. Tangential issues such as drinking, petting, and obedience are more than lightly touched on in this realistic novel with compelling characters.
