'Mummy! Mummy!' she cried. 'I've found the grey kitten. He was curled up asleep in my gumboot.'"" That's from the chapter called ""Karen and Boots"" (guess who); among other episodes are ""Karen and Hemi"" (her friend and neighbor, who by the way is ""brown""), ""Karen and the Big Black Dog"" and ""Karen and the Town and Country Day."" With an unappealing low budget look, it's one of the stickier British trifles to be brought over; the accent doesn't help (""At first she could not see anybody else outside, which seemed rather a waste of such a lovely, puddly morning"") but it's the closing line of each chapter that cloys: ""'OK,' decided Hemi. 'Let's go.' And they did."" . . . ""'Let's have our morning tea,' said mother. And they did."" . . . ""And she did."" . . . And we won't.
