Ronald Trimm is a moderately successful antiques dealer married to Nancy--who's ambitious, meticulous, and frigid. So poor frustrated Ronald confines his lust to porno mags until a chance encounter with Dorothea Wyatt (a drunk and willing widow) triggers more violent emotions. Dorothea sobers up, however, refusing a repeat performance--so Ronald embarks on a series of carefully planned rapes, two of which end in murder. And Detective Constable Cooley, who becomes romantically interested in rape victim #1, will have to enact a last-minute rescue to save 16-year-old Lynn Norton--who's next on the rapist's list. Solidly built suspense, sympathetic character portraits: a competent but hardly fresh treatment of a hackneyed, dreary theme.
