Another story for the teen ages from post-war Germany, by the author of The Ark and Rowan Farm exhibits much of the same comforting hold on young problems. In a warm narrative the story of Leni Winkelberg, 17, begins Frankfurt where she is a stenographer and hears from her lawyer boss that her aunt Frederike Rode has inherited a castle in the west zone. There is the excitement of getting Frederike and her scientist husband out of Jena, and , when Leni goes to the castle with them, a new life begins. There is a local theatrical group that fulfills Leni's ambitions to study . She and Frederike not only care for the castle but make part of it into a home for orphans. At the last there is the offer of an acting contract from Hamburg, and Lent knows she will be able to have the future she wants.
