WHAT FOLLOWED WAS PURE LESLEY

Pure Lesley is absolute nonsense about a post-post-Salinger brother and sister (Nicky tells the story which Lesley lives -- she's a little older) and certainly for a time you won't guess what will follow or even -what kind of a book you're reading. Lesley is one of those princess types -- she has ""grandeur"" -- and she's been upstaging everyone ever since she was born. But now she's leaving college momentarily out of boredom or is she having a ""breakdown"" or is she making some ""tough decisions about academics and action"" or, as Nicky who is really attuned to her begins to suspect, is she in some kind of mess. She is. And it gets worse after a young pusher with $500,000 worth of heroin on him dies of an OD. Did she kill him and can Lesley get away with murder? Can Mr. Kelman? Since this is essentially just a snub-nosed scenario of crime which hustles sentiment to make up for the fact that there's not a moral scruple in sight.
