RICK BARRY: Sports Hero

Rick Barry, a basketball star from age 10 on, is the latest from Burchard's bench of sports heroes. But the hot-dogging, boastful Barry comes off here more as an anti-hero, and the key words seem to be competitive--""he had to be better than anyone else, no matter what""; intolerant--""I'd probably punch someone who told me what to do""; and unpopular--in a college game his teammates refused to give him the ball. Though he's no paragon, action photos and the colorful language make him interasting--especially, in this format, at this level.
