THE MANNERLY ADVENTURES OF LITTLE MOUSE

A mechanically cutesy story about Little Mouse, who always forgets his manners. A less than compelling problem to start with, and Keenan makes the least of it: prodded by Mama Mouse when Uncle Cheddar gives him a cheese cracker, Little Mouse says ""May I have some more"" instead of ""Thank you""; and when he finds and eats his sister's cracker, he says, ""I found the cracker"" instead of ""I'm sorry."" Little Mouse redeems himself just as unimaginatively, when he goes foraging with Uncle Cheddar and brings home all sorts of food scraps to share. ""You have showed the truest manners of all,"" says Mama Mouse. ""Thank you, Little Mouse."" And Little Mouse says ""exactly the right thing: 'You're welcome.'"" Though Shardin draws the old-fashioned pink mice in a soft-color, ""lovable"" mode, they haven't a suggestion of personality and their appeal doesn't survive a first glance.
