As Caidin in his violent, and searing prone, puts it- and perhaps objectively- this is the score. This is how, by their scientific attitude, by their highly organized programs of research and education, and by their own undeniable genius, to say nothing of their long, distinguished history in the field, the Russians have outstripped America in rocket research and the science of space travel. This, moreover, is a thorough survey of America's progress in the field-and where it has failed and beyond belief dawdled due to confusion and a cretinous lack of imagination, initiative, decision at every level of the government and military. Caidin's explosive style, if occasionally bordering upon sensationalism, seems somehow appropriate at this time. The abuse and ridicule he flings about, if wanton, seem justified. But perhaps his chief service is to better establish the cause and scope of Soviet superiority in missiles and space conquest.
