ANNIE JORDAN

A story of Seattle's waterfront, at the turn of the century- a story with the ingredients that make for good rentals- but with too obvious a pattern for more critical tastes. Annie Jordan, born on the waterfront, passionate, spirited, fearless, meets and loves Hugh Deming who belongs on The Hill, and Hugh, too traditional, marries first- family Emily Carlton. His marriage- and Annie's to good, reliable Ed- go their appointed ways, until tragedy smashed Annie's marriage, and widowed, childless, she goes back to the waterfront she knew. At her death, Hugh knew again that for him there had been no one else... Romantic melodrama, on a superficial level, but competent in handling, authentic in background, except for occasional modernisms that strike a wrong note. Rentals chiefly.
