by Mary C. Jane ‧ RELEASE DATE: Sept. 19, 1956
A patterned story has its comic relief and describes the conversion of an old estate into successful tourist lodgings in spite of rumors of ghosts. Janice and Tommy are invited to spend the summer on the Maine-Canadian border where their young Aunt Annabelle, widowed but headstrong, has bought the old house. When they arrive, the children make friends with Grant, of the Canadian Border Patrol, who tells them of the frightening legend connected with the place- the sound of hoofbeats in a rock has meant death for two people. Detecting and discovering leads to a more modern misdemeanor- that of smuggling aliens into the U.S.- and to top it off, Aunt Annabelle gets engaged to Grant.
