DASH AND DART

I may be putting myself out on a limb when I say that it seems impossible that there could be a more beautiful book this season than this. In rhythmic prose-poetry the story is told of the first year of twin fawns, of their gradual learning about life in the wilds, self-protection, friend and foe. Direct, uncomplicated, keyed in simple content and form to the understanding of small children when read to them by sympathetic adults. Conrad Buff has made the pictures -- lithographs reproduced so that no part of their glowing sense of design and color is lost, whether the reproduction is in soft browns or rich color of the double spreads. The binding is an allover design of form leaves, with the figures of the fawns inset. A lovely book to grow up with.
