Duck, Mouse, Red Spider and Tinker the elf affirm their platitudinous friendship in eight tiddly-tidy stories which might better have been discarded with the monthly Humpty Dumpty issues in which they first appeared. Together the four little friends exchange Easter gifts, track down a weasel who has been stealing Tinker's fine clothes, make friends with a beetle who promises to collect their trash, try out the witch remover Tinker has invented to keep Mother Gumboil from stealing their Halloween pumpkin, and rescue Santa Claus when he falls down in the snow. ""'Oh dearie me!' said Tinker (to Santa). 'What a thing to see. I must get you home as fast as can be!' "" and the rhymes that punctuate the other adventures are every bit as vapid.
