More babyish barnyard doings--for, conceivably, beginning readers who haven't been much read to. This one, if familiar in every particular, is at least nicely shaped. Little Chick, impatient for breakfast, goes out to watch the sun come up. She hears the robin sing and the rooster crow; she sees the farmer's daughter feeding the cow (""Hay for the cow's breakfast"") and the farmer's son milking the cow--milk for his breakfast, and the cat's. But where is her breakfast? Speckled Hen bas just laid an egg--that makes four: ""One egg for the farmer. One egg for the farmer's daughter. . . ."" And finally, with the sun up behind the barn, the farmer comes with breakfast for Little Chick (and Broody Hen, and Speckled Hen, and Red Rooster) too. And it's Little Chick's favorite: dried corn. Cozy, pleasant, and playful--pictures included.
