THE MOON-SPINNERS

Off for an Easter, holiday from her job in the British Embassy in Athens, Nicola Ferris steals a day from her stay at the new hotel in southwest Crete, comes upon a wounded Englishman, Mark, his companion, Lambia, and brings to light part of the reason for their wish to keep her out of their attempts to find the people who shot Mark and who kidnaped his younger brother. In the hotel and bound to secrecy, she finds new situations developing --with the hotel owner, his factum factotum Tony, and the owner's sister. Nicola makes friends with the villagers and, with the help of her cousin Frances, is able to make a pattern of the threads that lead to a robbery in England, yet another killing, and she is saved by Mark, Lambia and young Colin from a watery demise. Aegean caiques, village, white Mountains, and alien country, are a soft scented, dark background for foolish, female behavior and dramatic denouement. It accomplishes its objective -- you do keep reading.
