HARD DRIVE TO SHORT

You might think a good teammate would tell the others that he has to leave early to babysit for his sisters. But Sandy is ashamed, and afraid that his friends will razz him. They, in turn, assume he's off with Rod Temple, an older boy equipped with a cool scooter and a hot temper. Sandy is pleased by Rod's attention, but he sees through his ploys (forgetting his wallet) and genuinely misses his friends. All's well in the end--he bids Rod goodbye and works at regaining his teammates' good will. The several strands come together effectively with the play-by-play, although his reluctance to tell may seem suspect to some readers.
