Amid the joyous bustle and mystic wonder of Christmas Eve, Afify makes plans to go with her brother, five year-old Hanna, to their secret place in Prospect Park on Christmas Eve, and the two little children make a midnight pilgrimage which realizes for them a Christmas miracle. Miss Lovelace has created not only a very real and likeable group of adults and the color of a Syrian Christmas celebration, but the tenderness and joy of young children bursting with Christmas. Charming illustrations by Gertrude Herrick Howe decorate this enchanting book, sure to be a treasured part of Christmas reading for years to come.
