BETSY AND THE GREAT WORLD

Oh, Joe....."" despairs our Betsy as she sails for Europe in January of 1914. For Joe Willard of Betsy and Joe (1948- p.365) has forsaken her for Harvard and so Betsy, forlorn but not forgotten and still intent on becoming a serious writer, heads for London, Paris and points a little further east, to broaden her possibilities for a career. In gayer mood, the proper experiences follow. Montmartre is glimpsed, American Express is badgered, a famous sugar daddy is met in Zurich. Six months later impending war clouds bring, in the nick of time- a passage home and-unbelievably- a message from Joe in the ""Agony Column"" of a London newspaper to which Betsy eagerly responds. Geared for Lovelace fans now growing up.
