Did you like Erick Berry's One String Fiddle? This suggests an expansion of that theme, or, more accurately, another side of the mirror, for here is the story of a boy who followed all trails to build a complete pattern of a folk song of his mountain people. He joins a writer, seeking source material for a book on American folk songs, and together they visit all his kith and kin, they share the work and play, and the homely life, and they collect songs, words and music. I loved it, and feel that it is the best thing May Justus has done.
