Slightly older in its appeal than her last, Use Your Head, Hildy, this story takes a Louisville girl on the edge of the teens with her father to the mountain mission his father had established some years before. The call came because Dr. Dane was needed professionally; only one nurse was handling the sickness during a difficult winter and spring. And the nurse turns out to be one whom the doctor had found wanting in some minor matter at the very end of her hospital training. So the story is told on two levels of interest, as Betty Lou finds herself quickly intertwined with the affairs of the mountain people, and Dr. Dane has a difficult time winning again the confidence of the over-sensitive nurse, Marian. The mountain atmosphere- and the kinds of things that happen- show May Justus at her best; her handling of the romance on the ragged edge seems a bit contrived.
