The strange big black dog arrived at the farm at an inopportune time for the farmer's flock of hens had been destroyed by a pack of dogs. Only the little red hen, remained. And she was in pretty bad shape, having lost her toes from frost. So the farmer took the dog far away and left him. But the dog had decided the farm was home. He found his way back and hid near by, looking after the little red hen as she made her nest in a secret place. And when her chicks were hatched it was the black dog who led the procession back to the farm and saved her life from the swooping hawk. Then the farmer knew they all belonged together. It's a long story for a little action.
